What is it?
Gingival recession is when the gum margin pulls back from the tooth, exposing the root surface underneath. It can affect a single tooth or several adjacent teeth, and often leads to sensitivity, a longer-looking tooth and an uneven gumline.
What causes it?
Aggressive tooth brushing, naturally thin gum tissue, gum disease, teeth that sit slightly outside the arch, orthodontic movement, and habits such as teeth grinding can all contribute to recession over time.
